Sally,Jon,Johnny,Jen and Hannah, I'm sorry I was unable to be with you today, to celebrate the life of a very much loved and highly respected Man. You all honoured your Dad, Dad-in-law and Granddad, it was a beautiful service. Don will always hold a special place in my heart, his kindness, his cheeky sense of humour, his "chuckle", but most of all his willingness to help others. My sincere condolences to you all. Warm regards Sandy Harper. Rest in Love Don❤️

Sorry we couldn’t be there today. We have just finished watching the live stream. We always admired Don for his work ethic, dedication, and sense of humour. One of our memories that Don told us that he dreaded Monday mornings as he was never sure quite what mess Grant had left him to fix from the weekend, especially the gun irrigators. Don was always there to help if ever needed. We all need a “Don” in our lives and we are so glad to have known him.

Thinking of you all on this day of remembrance of Don. A nicer man it would have been harder to find. Sorry I can't be in attendance . However my thoughts are with you. My mother Lorna also wishes to send her condolences. She really enjoyed Dons company during the time they were neighbours at the Observatory Village. Murray and Gaynor Smith and Lorna Smith

I have many wonderful memories of my uncle Don. In childhood I often visited him with my family at his farm in Five Forks. I never heard an unkind word from Don about anybody. He was always wiling to chat. We often talked about New Zealand, Otago and North Otago rugby, for example. Many times he was at our place in Dunedin for a visit and again pleasant conversations always ensued. When my wife Deborah (nee Thompson, from Oamaru) and I were married on 9 February 1980, at Oamaru, he drove the car that Deborah arrived in for our wedding. He has always been a great uncle to me. I miss you, uncle Don, and may you rest in peace. And all God's best to all his immediate family, especially my wonderful mother and his sister, Helen, and my great cousins Sally and Johnny, as they, like me though I am in Sydney, mourn Don's passing.

It was wonderful to be a neighbour with Don,who welcomed us into our retirement in Oamaru. Don was a really good man and we enjoyed listening to the stories of his early life. Our deepest sympathies to Johnny and Sally and their families. He had a great life but his passing marks the end of an era. Sorry we can't be there with you to celebrate that life. Rest in Peace Don. In loving memory of Don, such a lovely man. He will be sadly missed after a life well lived. Don and my late father Mervyn Gray worked together so he has been part of our family a long time and we had the privilege of meeting with him In his older years. Loving thoughts Jenny Gray
